New Delhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal condemned the attack on the JNU students by masked 'goons' on Sunday and spoke to Delhi LG Anil Baijal regarding the violence.
Mr Baijal has assured that he was closely monitoring the situation ,while all the necessary steps were being taken, Delhi CM said in a tweet.He questioned how would the country progress if the students do not remain safe inside the university campus.
'I am so shocked to know abt the violence at JNU. Students attacked brutally. Police shud immediately stop violence and restore peace. How will the country progress if our students will not be safe inside univ campus?Spoke to Hon’ble LG and urged him to direct police to restore order. He has assured that he is closely monitoring the situation and taking all necessary steps,' Mr Kejriwal said in a tweet.
Meanwhile, several political leaders have strongly condemned the violence .
Jawaharlal Nehru University students were allegedly attacked by unidentified group of people in the campus here on Sunday evening.
According to Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union (JNUSU), some 'masked' men allegedly entered the student's hostel in the evening and assaulted them with stones, rods and sticks.
The JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh, general secretary Satish Chandra Yadav, and around 20 other students were injured in the attack, sources said. They were rushed to AIIMS for medical treatment, the student's body informed.
The goons also attacked a professor, who was trying to help the students.Several videos of attack have emerged on the social media.
