New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday condoled the demise of scholar and writer M Chidananda Murthy who passed away in Bengaluru in the morning.
'M Chidananda Murthy was a doyen of culture and literature. His passion towards Kannada language was noteworthy and so were his efforts to preserve unique aspects of our rich history. His demise is saddening. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,' said the Prime Minister in his tweet.
Murthy, 88, is survived by wife, son and daughter. He was a well-known scholar in Karnataka specialising in the history of Kannada language and ancient Karnataka.
Murthy was also known for his campaign to conserve the monuments Hampi and to secure classical language status to Kannada Language. Murthy has also articulated that uniform civil code and an anti-conversion law must be enacted by the Government in India.
