Myanmar: 16 pilgrims killed, 10 injured as truck plunges into ravine

Yangon. At least 16 pilgrims were killed and 10 others injured when their truck fell into a very deep ravine in Myanmar's Shan state, local authorities said on Tuesday.

The vehicle was carrying 26 Buddhist pilgrims, including three monks and three children, from Taunggyi to Mandalay along the Myo Gyi-Ywa Ngan Highway when it drove off the road and plunged about 2,000 feet down the mountainside, Xinhua reported.

Search and rescue operations are underway near the scene, while the injured were admitted to Mandalay and Ywa Ngan hospitals.
