Bangkok. At least 15 people manning a security checkpoint were killed in an insurgent attack in central Thailand's Muang district. Ten insurgents walked through the rubber plantation to the checkpoint building and attacked the securitymen at 2130 hrs on Tuesday, Bangkok Post reported.

The deceased included 11 local residents and officials, mainly defence volunteers on duty. Four wounded colleagues later succumbed at Yala Hospital.
Three other wounded people were being treated, while two defence volunteers survived the attack.
According to officials, the attackers stole victims' weapons. At about the same time, two other checkpoints were also attacked, but no casualties were reported.
